A fundraiser held by the Bermuda Police Service raised more than $2,000 for Family Centre.

Staff from the charity were presented with a cheque and certificate of appreciation today.

Acting Assistant Commissioner James Howard, of the BPS, said it was an opportunity to show the service’s thanks to Family Centre for its “unwavering dedication to our community over the past three decades”.

He added: “For 30 years, this remarkable charity has been a beacon of hope, providing critical subsidised child and family intervention services.

”Their impact reaches far and wide, touching the lives of countless individuals and families.

“Through their commitment, the Family Centre has created a foundation of support, empowering our community to navigate challenges and thrive.

“Their compassion and tireless efforts have truly made a difference.

“As we acknowledge this milestone, let us, the Bermuda Police Service, extend our deepest appreciation to the incredible team at the Family Centre.

“Your resilience, kindness and generosity have left an indelible mark on our hearts and the fabric of our community.

“Here's to you and your 30 years of selfless service, 30 years of transforming lives.

“Thank you for being the guiding light that our community needed.

“Your legacy of compassion will continue to shine brightly for years to come.”

Mr Howard said that Deputy Commissioner of Police Na’imah Astwood recognised the World Children’s Day appeal made by the charity last month, when Family Centre said it needed to raise $250,000 by the year’s end.

Ms Astwood approached Darrin Simons, the Commissioner of Police, and it was agreed that a denim day would be held to support the campaign.

Acting Detective Chief Inspector Derricka Burns handed over a cheque for $2,122 this morning.

She also presented an appreciation certificate that said: “The officers and support staff of the Bermuda Police Service wish to recognise the continued dedication of the Family Centre to improving the lives of families living in Bermuda.

“In response to the Family Centre’s critical appeal in observation of World Children’s Day, the BPS family held a denim day on November 24 to raise funds in support of the Family Centre and their mission of facilitating healing, hope and connection to strengthen families and create a healthier Bermuda for our children.”

Thania Redman, the charity's relationship development director, said at the presentation: “Part of our job is also similar to yours — keeping the environment safe for the community and specifically for our children, teens and families.

“This funding not only represents money but it also represents care for your community, our children and our teens.”

She added: “You gave from the heart, and we so appreciate it because what we do comes from the heart.”

Ms Redman said later that Family Centre was “thrilled” to receive the “critical donation”.

Hannah Collins, the charity’s fund development co-ordinator, added: “Thank you Bermuda Police Service members for appreciating the importance of the therapeutic programmes and services Family Centre provides to children and families in Bermuda.”
