CGB members show off flair for fashion and fundraising
Floral bouquets and fashion were the focus of attention at the Church Girls’ Brigade annual fundraiser on Mother’s Day last Saturday.
More than 150 people attended the event in the Peter Evans Christian Education Centre at St Paul’s Church in Paget.
Bermuda Boys’ Brigade drummers formed an honour guard to welcome their patron, Andrew Murdoch, the Governor of Bermuda. Also attending was the Right Reverend Nicholas Dill, Anglican Bishop of Bermuda.
A fashion show featured designs by members of the Girls’ Brigade while mistress of ceremonies Shawnette Somner won the prize for best hat.
Bishop Dill was tasked with selecting which of 16 tables was the best decorated, and chose local artist and floral arranger Victoria Outerbridge the winner.
A brigade spokeswoman said: “A memorial seat and table were reserved for loved ones in heaven, guests were invited to write messages to place on notice boards to mothers and carers who are no longer with us.
“The event was a testament to our church’s mandate to be loving and serving our community.”
Entertainment was provided by a host of musicians, including singers Wendy Robinson and Tony Brannon, saxophonist Cherann Brangman, singer guitarist Niall Kavanagh and Lifelong Learning Center Uksters.
Funds raised will support various local charities and scholarships for CGB members heading off to college.
The Bermuda Church Girls’ Brigade is part of Britain’s Church Lads’ and Church Girls’ Brigade uniformed Christian youth outreach organisation for girls aged between 5 and 21. The group meets on Thursday evenings for religious, educational and recreational activities.
