Energy forums looking to the future to be launched by Belco
An “education series” on the future of energy production in Bermuda is to start this month courtesy of Belco.
The first in the series, dubbed the Energy Equation, is scheduled for June 26 at 5.30pm in the Tradewinds Auditorium at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute.
The forum will examine the island’s present “energy landscape”, giving insights into Belco's operations and vision for its future.
Nadir Wade, the managing director of bulk generation, will address how Belco tackles the process, while Shelly Leman, Belco’s managing director, will outline its operations in transmission and distribution.
The keynote speaker will be Jeffrey Steynor, Belco's director of energy transition and business development, who will discuss the utility’s future plans, including “the balancing act between reliability, economic stability and environmental stewardship”, a spokesman said.
The forum will come with a question and answer session.
The venue can accommodate 135 participants, with registration required online at belco.bm.
Dr Steynor said the island stood at “a critical juncture” for deciding its energy plans for the decades ahead.
He added: “There's no single solution — we'll need multiple energy sources and careful planning to ensure reliable, affordable electricity while moving toward sustainability.
“This collaborative effort requires all stakeholders’ participation. I encourage the public to attend, ask questions and engage in this important conversation.”
