The Bermuda Sea Cadet Corps have announced that they are to represent the island at the prestigious National Trafalgar Parade in London this week.

Held each year in Trafalgar Square, the flagship ceremonial event showcases the excellence of the Sea Cadet Corps and brings together more than 400 participants including Sea Cadets, Royal Navy Volunteer Cadets, Air Cadets and Army Cadets.

The cadets selected for the event include Petty Officer Cadet Laura Frith, Able Cadets Oca-Ray Brown, Nathan Cassidy and Xavier Vezina, and Ordinary Cadets A’lia German Pitcher, Lexie Taylor, Christian Fox (reserve) and Samuel Valles (reserve).

The corps said that participation marks an historic milestone for Bermuda, as it is the first time the island’s sea cadets have been invited to take part in the parade.

They added that marching alongside counterparts from Britain is “not only a privilege but also a unique opportunity to demonstrate the discipline, skill and dedication” of the island on an international platform.

The cadets representing Bermuda were selected after a series of intensive drill and ceremonial training sessions led by Sub-Lieutenant Sam Bennett, a Royal Navy Reserve and development officer, with the assistance of Petty Officer Kevin Sunga, a senior drill and ceremonial instructor.

The cadets devoted hours to mastering the precision and discipline essential for performing at such an elite level.

Their efforts and resolve reflect not only their individual commitment but also the overall strength of the Bermuda Sea Cadet Corps, the organisation said.

Sub-Lieutenant Bennett expressed his pride in the cadets’ effort and commitment.

He said: “The standard of drill required for this parade is extremely high, and our cadets made the commitment to meet it.

“They have absolutely done that and have earned the right to march in this event.

“I could not be more proud of them.”

Sub-Lieutenant Bennett will lead the contingent overseas, assisted by Petty Officer Ani Douglas.

As well as the parade, the cadets will travel to Queensferry in Scotland to take advantage of opportunities at Sea Cadet Port Edgar Boat Station, a state-of-the-art training centre.

They will also have the opportunity to visit a Royal Naval vessel and train with other cadets in the region.

The Bermuda Sea Cadet Corps thanked the volunteers, families and community members whose support was “instrumental” in making the latest achievement possible.
