Phone lines back up and running
Normal service has resumed for companies affected by Digicel’s fixed-lines outage, the provider said today.
The telecommunications company confirmed this afternoon that voice services had been fully restored for all affected business customers on the island.
A spokeswoman said: “We sincerely thank our customers for their patience and understanding throughout this incident and recognise the impact these disruptions can have on their businesses.
“We also thank our technical teams, who worked around the clock to restore services as quickly and safely as possible.
“As part of our long-term strategy, we continue to encourage both residential and business customers to transition to our newer voice technologies, which provide greater reliability, resilience and enhanced functionality.
“This programme has been under way for some time and reflects our continued investment in delivering the best possible communications experience for our customers.”
The outage started on Sunday, with residents being warned by the police and hospital that technical issues were affecting the 911 emergency number.
Direct dial lines remained unavailable at Butterfield Bank on Tuesday afternoon.
Digicel said it would conduct a “full post-incident review” to identify any opportunities for further strengthening resilience of the network and services.
