Sims tied for eighth at Q-School

Bermuda’s Michael Sims is bidding to qualify for the 2013 PGA Tour

Michael Sims kept his hopes of advancing to the next round of the PGA Tour Qualifying School in Texas, USA very much alive after carding a one-under-par 71 during yesterday’s second round of the tournament being played at the Lantana Golf Club. The Bermudian professional’s bogey-free round included a solitary birdie at the par-three 15th where he also made birdie the day before.Sims is currently tied for ninth at three-under-par 141 for the 72-hole tournament that is being played at six different venues and concludes with the final round tomorrow. The past Bermuda Open winner currently has the best scoring average of 2.62 on the par 3s at the 7,147-yard Lantana Golf Club.Sims started yesterday’s second round tied for ninth after carding a two-under-par 70 that included six birdies and four bogeys during Tuesday’s opening round. The former Nationwide Tour player made a disappointing start in Texas after carding all of his bogeys on the front nine to make the turn at three-over-par for the round. But Sims caught fire with the putter on the back nine, rolling in five birdies to offset his four bogeys and enter the clubhouse under par.Only the top 18 qualifiers and ties in Texas will advance to the second stage of the PGA Tour Qualifying School.Sims is one of the top 20 eGolf Professional Tour members on the member earnings money list whose $4,500 PGA Tour Qualifying Tournament entry fee was paid for by eGolf. He managed six top ten showings on this year’s eGolf Professional Tour and earned $54,839 in prize money. In July Sims grabbed national attention after firing an eGolf Tour record 12-under-par 59 in the second round of the Southern Open where he lost to 2007 British Amateur champion Drew Weaver in a playoff.
