Butterfield Bermuda APGA Championship not on calendar
The Butterfield Bermuda APGA Championship will not be held this year.
Danielle Carrera, the Butterfield Bermuda Championship tournament director, confirmed the event will not go ahead as a result of a scheduling conflict on the Advocates Professional Golf Association Tour in the United States.
“We were not able to align on dates for hosting in 2025 due to changes in schedule for the APGA, so we have agreed to take a year off and are hopeful to return to hosting in 2026,” she told The Royal Gazette.
The 36-hole tournament was launched in 2022 and is held in conjunction with the Advocates Professional Golf Association and the PGA Tour.
The field is usually comprised of 18 of the top APGA Tour players, based on the final Lexus Cup standings, and three Bermudians who earn their spot during the Butterfield Bermuda Championship local qualifier at Port Royal Golf Course.
Willie Mack III won the inaugural tournament and fellow American Kevin Hall the last to be held in 2024.
Local professional Nick Jones earned full exemption to compete on last year’s tour after finishing tied for fifth on his debut in the Butterfield Bermuda APGA Championship in 2023.
Fellow Bermudians Daniel Augustus and Camiko Smith have also competed on the APGA Tour abroad.
Augustus is Bermuda’s best performer on the tour to date after finishing tied for second at the 2022 Mastercard APGA Tour Championship in San Antonio, Texas.
That brilliant display earned the player $15,000 in prize money — his biggest payday as a professional.
Established in 2010, the Advocates Pro Golf Association (APGA) Tour is a non-profit organisation with the mission to prepare African-Americans and other minority golfers to compete and win at the highest level of professional golf, both on tour and in the golf industry through professional tournaments, career development and mentoring.
