Trio impress in Massachusetts

Jordan Trimarchi on the rings

Three members of the Bermuda Gymnastics men’s team travelled to Springfield, Massachusetts, last weekend to compete in the Tim Daggett National Invitational.

Jacob Madeiros and Ben Mello, both eight, competed against 42 gymnasts in the Level 4 seven to eight-year-old division, while Jordan Trimarchi, 10, took on 48 youngsters in the Level 5 nine to ten-year-old division.

The trio put up a strong showing, finishing twelfth, nineteenth, and 28th in the all-around, respectively.

Coming off a win on vaulting at the YellowJackets Holiday Invitational in December, Bermuda’s top finish came from Jacob Madeiros in the same event, winning the silver medal with a 10.2.

Madeiros also finished fifth on parallel bars (10.1) and ninth on the pommel horse (9.2). Mello, in his first competition, earned sixth place on vaulting (10.0), and also finished thirteenth on parallel bars (9.6).

In the Level 5 division, Jordan Trimarchi scored 10.4 on rings, but finished just out of the medals because of a tie-break to come thirteenth. Trimarchi also had a strong vault for a 9.8 to come nineteenth.

The boys’ squad return to action at the end of the month, when six gymnasts travel to College Park, Maryland, for the Mid Atlantic Gymnastics Invitational.
