Showstopping performances at gymnastics championships
The Gymnastics National Championships delivered a memorable showcase of athletic excellence, composure and determination last weekend.
Athletes representing BGA and Quality Gymnastics competed across Xcel Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum divisions, as well as Junior Development Level 6.
Among the day’s most notable results, Finley Gilmar, of BGA, captured the Xcel Bronze all-around title with an exceptional score of 38.675, placing first on all four apparatus. Her team-mate, Evelyn Howarth, claimed the Xcel Silver crown with 38.575, also finishing first across every event in her division.
The championships continued with equally impressive performances in the remaining divisions. Tyla Foote, of Quality Gymnastics, secured the Xcel Gold all-around title with 37.075, narrowly ahead of Maddie Pritchard, from BGA, on 36.700.
In Xcel Platinum, Isobel Stones, from BGA, earned top honours with 37.025, while her team-mate, Eva Wright, led the JO Level 6 field with a winning score of 37.100.
The event also featured a tie for second place in Xcel Bronze, where Olivia Simons and Caroline Thompson, both of BGA, each achieved 37.600.
Julie Bortoli, president of the Gymnastics Federation of Bermuda, felt that the young gymnasts demonstrated the strength and depth of Bermuda’s gymnastics programme with outstanding all-around performances throughout the competition.
“Overall, the championships reflected the athletes’ continued growth, discipline and competitive spirit,” Bortoli said.
“They served as a proud celebration of the dedication shown by gymnasts, coaches and families alike.
“With such strong performances across all levels, the future of Bermuda gymnastics continues to look exceptionally bright and we can’t wait to see gymnasts compete at Carifta in November.”
For Jason Parker, head coach at BGA, the competition showcased the progress made by the sport on the island.
“This past weekend wasn’t just about crowning champions — it was about celebrating the growth of gymnastics in Bermuda,” Parker said.
“Every salute, routine and personal best helped move our sport forward. Congratulations to all athletes, coaches, officials and families who made this championship a success.”
Quality Gymnastics coach Fred Nicolas expressed his eagerness to see how his athletes will perform at Carifta.
“We are very proud of our athletes from Quality Gymnastics who bring a lot of medals in different categories,” he said.
“I can’t wait to see what the future will bring us. We are now preparing for the summer camp to be able to compete for Carifta in November, where we hope to win a lot of medals for Bermuda.”
