Island-wide ‘denim day’ raises $20k for hospital
Bermuda raised $20,000 on an Island-wide denim day on behalf of the Bermuda Hospitals Charitable Trust.The cash will go towards the redevelopment of King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.More than 1,900 people from approximately 60 companies, four schools and 150 hospital employees participated in the fundraising event on April 12.BHCT executive director Wendy Augustus said the organisation was “truly grateful” for the “overwhelming” community response.Added BHCT community development officer Laura Lyons: “We were thrilled with the level of participation from so many different sectors of the community Island-wide and all the way to London.“Companies and organisations of various size as well as individual donors contributed to the KEMH redevelopment project.“This denim day was one way for them to show their support because the hospital matters to them.”People are encouraged to host a denim day event by contacting the BHCT offices on 295-2428.
