Tent outside KEHM forced down

A tented entrance to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital set up as a precaution against Covid-19 has been taken down because of recent high winds.

A Bermuda Hospitals Board spokeswoman said the step was taken about a week ago.

She said: “The tents were taken down because gale force winds had been forecast. We still have them close at hand. If it becomes necessary to use them, we will erect them again.”

Michael Richmond, chief of staff at the hospital, said earlier this month the negative pressure tent at the entrance to the triage centre was intended to help protect healthcare workers.

Dr Richmond added: “The hospital itself is extremely well endowed with negative pressure capability. “Negative pressure capability stops the spread of particles or the virus out of individual private rooms.”
