Representatives from the Ministry of Health are set to meet with a farm in Smith’s over the quality of milk produced at its facilities.

A government spokeswoman said following the recent issuance of a notice of temporary suspension to Green Land Dairy Farm, representatives from the Ministry of Health planned to meet with the farm owner to discuss a strategy for maintaining and enhancing the quality of its milk, which came after tests conducted by health officials.

The Royal Gazette made several unsuccessful attempts to contact representatives of the farm on the issue.

Stephen Dunkley, general manager at Dunkley’s Dairy, said the farm supplies the majority of fresh milk to the firm.

He added: “Dunkley’s is working with Green Land and the health department to sort this issue.”

In the meantime, he said Dunkley’s offered an ample supply of other options to consumers including filled milk, slimline milk, skimmed milk and chocolate milk.

The farm was also put on notice last year by health officials over repeated failure of milk-quality tests.

A local retailer said his company had noticed “a sharp decline in fresh milk deliveries over the weekend and now the supply has completely dried up”.

He said the island at present lacked the blue-packaged whole milk.
