For the love of chocolate

Health and linestyle coach Preston Ephraim shows one of his creations for Valentine's Day.

Want to try you hand at making a chocolate treat?Try mixing natural cacao or dark powder with agave syrup and other natural sweeteners for an impressive sweet.“Chocolate was used in ancient ceremonies with the indigenous peoples and they would use it to have fun and tap into the spirit to see things without the limitations,” said lifestyle and health coach Preston Ephraim.“Chocolate tends to make me feel happy. Chocolate is definitely an aphrodisiac, and the more chocolate you have the better you will feel but at the same time in moderation.”There are health benefits as well.“Real chocolate is rich in metals and things like iron, magnesium,” said Mr Ephraim.“I have created a chocolate kale smoothie, which has almond, hemp or rice milk, some cacao powder, kale, a teaspoon of honey, maybe some bananas and some broccoli.“You don't taste them and you are still getting the nutrients.”Chocolate can also be used in cooking. Mr Ephraim suggested syrups that can be poured over vegetables and other ingredients.“You may want to drizzle it over a coconut ice cream, you can create a nice chocolate spelt pasta. Grab the apples, pineapples and have fondue. And for people who love popcorn, pour chocolate over it.”His tips for selecting chocolate?“Get the best quality chocolate that you can because that's the experience you're after. When you have a great, clean chocolate, there is no guilt and you don't need to eat as much.“You want to look for a dark chocolate. Get a piece of dark chocolate at least 70 percent pure, go home and then melt [much like in a double boiler in a metal bowl above another that has boiling water in it]. Add some honey or whatever sweetener you prefer.”
