Roll up! It’s time for another Garden Club of Bermuda Christmas in November extravaganza.The venue is the famously haunted Orange Valley in Devonshire and what a feast of festive fun and plenty is in store for all ages.Indeed, Club members have been working for many months to make Saturday’s fundraiser bigger and better than those which have gone before.Shoppers will find a wide variety of items to purchase beautiful, hand-made Christmas crafts created by the members using local foliage; decoupage serving trays; home-made preserves and baked goods, plants and books.Those seeking inspiration on how to decorate a festive dining room without rivaling the national debt need look no further than the attractive table displays showing how to incorporate everyday items from the family cupboard.Hay rides and other activities will keep the children amused.Three guided garden tours and one orchard tour will take place at 11am, 12pm, 1pm and 2pm.Arrangements created by the Garden Club’s award-winning floral artists will include enchanting garden sculptures and displays designed to enhance the charm of the old house itself.November is a very busy month for Santa, of course, but he’s going leave his chief elf in charge of the North Pole workshop and pay a visit. Who knows maybe the ghost of the Christmas past will also put in an appearance.There will also be plenty of entertainment. Bermuda School of Music Suzuki Strings will perform from 10.30am to 12pm; Antoinette Davis (flute) and Andrea Hodson (keyboard) from 12.30pm to 2pm, and the St Paul’s Recorder Group from 2.30pm to 3.30pm.Reputed to be haunted by three ghosts about which M. Cox has written in his book, ‘Bermuda’s Favourite Haunts’ ,Orange Valley has recently been visited by ghost hunter Kurt Knapp of the Discovery Channel’s ‘American Hauntings’.Parking is at Prospect Primary School, where a free shuttle service to the house and grounds will be provided. Those travelling by bus should alight at Devonshire Post Office on Middle Road, turn in to Orange Valley Road and follow the signs.Tickets are available at the entrance $20 for adults; $10 for children ages ten to 18. Children under ten enter free.The event will open at 10am and close at 4pm. It is the Garden Club of Bermuda's major fundraiser for its scholarship fund, to which all proceeds will be given.
