Cox to beat the drum for Bermuda at New York conference

Premier Paula Cox: Keynote speaker at New York financial conference

Premier Paula Cox will travel to New York next month to tout the benefits of doing business in Bermuda. The Premier will be the keynote speaker at the New York Society of Security Analysts’ (NYSSA) ‘Investing in Bermuda’ Conference on May 2.Members of the NYSSA represent an elite segment of the financial industry — most of them CFA charterholders — vice-presidents, directors and analysts from companies like JP Morgan Chase, Bank of America/Merrill Lynch, Goldman Sachs and Citi.The conference, aimed at bringing more international business to the island, will highlight Bermuda’s numerous financial services offerings through panel discussions featuring high-level government officials, regulators and business executives. Among the panellists and speakers are Business Development and Tourism Minister Wayne Furbert, Anthony Manders, Financial Secretary for the Ministry of Finance, Wayne Brown, Assistant Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Jeremy Cox, CEO of the Bermuda Monetary Authority, and Gregory Wojciechowski, CEO of the Bermuda Stock Exchange.This is the first time Bermuda has participated in a NYSSA event. During the full-day conference, Premier Cox and the others plan to discuss the latest opportunities Bermuda offers in the international investment banking, trusts, fund administration, insurance, reinsurance, and captive sectors.The conference is targeted at CEOs, hedge fund managers, corporate and investment bankers, and “those who want to register their firms in an offshore jurisdiction”.Promotional materials for the conference say “Investing in Bermuda places you in the company of many of the world’s blue-chip companies … Apart from its financial expertise, the principal attraction of Bermuda is its established reputation for transparency having signed the Tax Information Exchange Agreements (TIEA) with over 26 foreign countries.”The NYSSA has more than 10,000 members. The organisation says it is committed to promoting best practices and the highest professional and ethical standards in the investment industry.
