Students from Dellwood Middle School visited the offices of Axa XL to learn about international business in Bermuda. They were joined by Diallo Rabain, Minister of Education, who said: “We welcome this opportunity for our students to learn more about international business in Bermuda.“We are grateful to Abic and Axa XL for exposing students to careers and jobs within the international business sector. Students need to know that a variety of employment, technical and academic opportunities exist in IB. “Programmes like this provide students with insight and an opportunity to make valuable connections.”He added: “We commend Abic for their educational outreach and scholarships. Support from Abic and other Bermuda-based companies is in keeping with our Strategic Plan 2022, to ensure Bermuda’s youth are prepared to participate in a global economy and expose students to new technology and career opportunities.”Richard Winchell, executive director of The Association of Bermuda International Companies, said: “We want students to know that there are many different kinds of jobs in international business on our island and that the majority of jobs in international business are held by Bermudians.” Abic has been working with the Ministry of Education to develop and deliver a curriculum to Middle School students on the Bermuda economy and careers in international business. Out of discussions with middle schoolteachers, Abic initiated International Business Week in 2019, which is jointly supported by Bermuda Business Development Agency, Association of Bermuda Insurers and Reinsurers and Bermuda International Long Term Insurers and Reinsurers.Middle school students have opportunity to visit offices in Hamilton to learn first hand about careers in international business directly from staff and enjoy being treated to lunch and office tours. Some of the careers they learn about include accounting, actuarial, underwriting, broking, operations, human resources, IT and marketing and communications.Companies participating in the middle school experiences are Axa XL, BDA Bermuda, Arch, EY, Sun Life Financial and Marsh & McLennan.
