Global professional services firm BDO has expanded its international footprint with the launch of a new office in Bermuda, marking a significant step in the network’s continued growth, the organisation said.

The new operation, BDO Bermuda, is designed to enhance the firm’s ability to serve clients with Bermuda-domiciled structures, particularly in sectors where the island plays a pivotal role, including insurance, reinsurance and asset management.

BDO Bermuda will be led by newly appointed partner Gillian McCann, a seasoned financial services professional with more than 20 years of experience advising organisations in Bermuda and internationally.

Her appointment signals BDO’s intention to build a strong, locally rooted practice supported by deep regional and global expertise.

Oversight of the Bermuda office will be provided by James George, managing partner of BDO in the Cayman Islands, who has played a key role in developing the firm’s insurance and reinsurance capabilities across the Caribbean. Commenting on the expansion, he described the launch as a “natural next step” in BDO’s regional growth strategy.

He said: “Bermuda is a global financial services centre, and establishing a presence here allows us to better support clients with Bermuda-registered entities while strengthening our regional and international capabilities.

“With Gillian leading the office, we are confident that BDO Bermuda will become a trusted partner to the local market and the wider international business community.”

The new office will offer a full range of services, including audit and assurance, tax, and advisory, combining on-island expertise with the reach of BDO’s global network.

The firm says this integrated approach will enable it to deliver seamless, cross-jurisdictional support to multinational organisations facing increasingly complex regulatory and reporting requirements.

To mark the opening, BDO will host an official launch event in Bermuda later this month. It should bring together clients, industry stakeholders and members of the local business community, alongside partners from across the BDO global network, including the United States, the Cayman Islands and the United Kingdom.
