Viking Holdings reported second-quarter net income of $587.7 million, up 33.8 per cent from a year earlier, as fleet growth and higher revenue per passenger cruise day lifted results.

Revenue rose 16.5 per cent to $2.19 billion for the three months to June 30, while adjusted earnings per share increased to $1.31 from 99 cents.

The Bermudian-domiciled cruise operator said capacity passenger cruise days rose 10.9 per cent, driven mainly by its expanding fleet. Occupancy was 94.4 per cent, compared with 95.6 per cent a year earlier, while net yield increased 6.2 per cent to $645.

Adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation climbed 18.2 per cent to $748.4 million. Viking’s gross margin rose 15.7 per cent to $928.8 million, although vessel operating expenses increased 17.1 per cent to $442.3 million thanks to the larger fleet and higher fuel costs.

Leah Talactac, Viking’s president and chief executive, said: “Our second quarter results reflect the continued execution of our long-term strategy and the strength of the Viking brand.

“During the quarter, our revenue increased 16.5 per cent, driving an 18.2 per cent year-over-year increase in adjusted EBITDA, reflecting strong demand for our destination-focused offerings.”

Viking said it had sold 96 per cent of 2026 capacity for its core products as of August 9, with advance bookings of $6.39 billion, up 13 per cent from the comparable point last year.
