Congratulations, PLP

April 13, 2011Dear Sir,We should all congratulate the PLP Government for what they have achieved since November 1998. Many of us believed they would destroy our economy within five years but they didn't start doing that until they had been in power for eight years. Well done. After racking up nearly a billion dollars to the modest debt that her father left us with, Paula Cox has advised that she will pay off $200 million of our debt by 2016. Based upon the evidence that since 2007 this Government has failed to live within its means, how much more will she borrow to satisfy the current account overspending before the $200 million is paid off? Probably a great deal more! The worst effects of the global meltdown could have been avoided in Bermuda if the PLP and Paula Cox as Finance Minister had listened to the warnings that were dismissed as scaremongering. Now, those most negatively impacted by the austerity measures her Government is imposing on Bermudians, because of the PLP's mismanagement of our economy, are the very same low-income and now often no-income supporters who blindly re-elected the PLP Government based upon emotive electioneering by the PLP candidates. Bravo PLP.Who caused this mess? The PLP Government and its Civil Service advisors. Are the PLP ministers suffering? No. Have they proactively offered to share the pain by reducing their income? No. Have they even attempted to reduce the cost of the monster Civil Service they created to save costs and share the pain across both public and private individuals? No. The only section of Bermuda not suffering because of the PLP inflicted financial mess we are in is the Government and the Civil Service. There is something terribly wrong when the servants of the people are better off than the people they serve.FOR A FAIRER SHAREPembroke
