Boycott threat was wrong
April 29, 2011Dear Sir,With reference to the front page article, ‘AME officials apologise to Govt over seating row’ (April 29, 2011). I have deep concerns with the government minister going to the extent that she did in making this such a public issue. If the seating of the minister and the acting Premier was a deliberate act of defiance than she might have some just cause but if it was an honest oversight than I believe that she has gone way too far. Don’t get me wrong I do believe in protocol. I was for many years a padre in the Canadian Armed Forces Reserves and when the Calgary Highlanders received a new Queen’s Colour (1990) I planned the dedication service at which her Majesty the Queen made the presentation. Protocol has its place but so does humility especially in a church. The threat of a boycott because you did not receive front row seating in church is not a desirable trait. Like it or not in God’s sight all of his children are VIP’s and no government intervention or workshop will ever change that.REV JOHN FRASERHamilton
