We created deficitMay 20, 2011Dear Sir,When is somebody going to tell Paula Cox that the global recession is an external phenomena and is not responsible for Bermuda’s internal billion dollar debt.Her ramblings in yesterday’s Royal Gazette regarding the BPSU wage agreement are again intended to divert attention from the real reason Bermuda is in its current financial mess, a mess that could have been avoided if Government, and by extension the Minister of Finance, had been more vigilant in safeguarding the wealth they inherited rather than squandering everything and bankrupting the country.Premier Cox is hiding behind the collapse of the global financial markets with their dodgy sub-prime mortgages, fancy hedge funds and mind boggling derivatives to substantiate Bermuda’s recession. All you have to do is watch the movie “Inside Job” to realise Bermuda’s problems have very little to do with the global financial meltdown and a lot to do with the PLP’s total incompetence and mismanagement of tax payers money. Interestingly, it is foreign governments who have bailed out the international investment banks that caused the global recession while it was our local government who was bailed out by the ex-premier’s brother.Where has all our money gone? Will there be any accountability? What’s in it for HSBC? Lets hope that after they win the next election, the OBA can do a better job of reversing the downward suicidal path we are heading in, and investigate all the decisions that put us in this predicament in the first place.WHO’S KIDDING WHO?Warwick
