May 17, 2011Dear Sir,As a founder member of the United Bermuda Party, and as a member of its first Executive Committee, I am perhaps expected to be emotional about its demise.I am not.For the last few years I have felt that if the UBP and the BDA fought the next election separately then they would split the vote and thereby assure a win for the present Government. That is not the way forward for Bermuda. I am very much in favour of the launching of the new party; the One Bermuda Alliance. As in the arrival of a new child, there is always labour at first and then we share in the glory of the birth.It is a sad occasion for my long time friend, Kim Swan. All the former UBP members are grateful for the work and dedication he has given to the UBP and to Bermuda.We look forward with renewed vigor and hope for the OBA and a better future for the people of Bermuda.I sincerely hope that Kim and Charlie and others will put the past behind them for they still have much to contribute to a new Bermuda.DR C R TERCEIRASomerset
