Time for action
July 4, 2011Dear Sir,Having read the various expressions of shock, incredulity and just plain “no fair!” over the UBP/BDA/OBA mutation, may I offer comment?I believe all political parties perform these exercises in rebranding, readjusting and reforming. It is called ‘strategy' and there is nothing sinister or unusual about it. You would think the voters are being fooled into something they won't recognise. We all know the players and when we see their names on the ballot, we will make our decision whether to vote for them or not. What is sinister, however, is the fact that the present PLP has so many ex-UBP supporters embedded in their organisation that the paranoia must be palpable. Who to trust? For instance they embrace the ex-leader of the UBP as he feels it his moral duty to now spill the details of past UBP strategy while he was a prominent member. Now that's loyalty for you. The PLP must be taking wary not of that and wondering how much of their plans and inner workings should be available to all those who once flew the UBP flag so proudly.Everyone calls for the UBP to disband primarily for racial reasons. Now the same people are crying foul when the UBP does disband, impugning their motives and claiming it was all done to fool black voters! The Opposition must make it their focus to adapt and try to win the next election to prevent mortal damage being continued by the current Government. They need to win some of the votes of those who supported the PLP in 2007. The colour of those voters skin is not the issue here, saving the island and future generations from five more years of gross mismanagement is.There are a limited number of persons willing to risk the derision of the population (still uncounted?) in order to run for Parliament, although now anybody is free to run and they have, as we have so painfully seen. If you the voter wishes to see no opposition to all that passes for managing the country, then be content with more unemployment, more shootings, falling home values, loss of income, tourism and general security. This has zero to do with race and everything to do with saving your country. When you hear race being touted, your attention is being emotionally distracted from the real issues. The voters must be seeing and feeling those issues by now and that is why democracy can save you. If you voted for the present Government, how's that working for you? So if you feel we have had our future and our children's future snatched from under us in the most egregious manner and it is unlikely they can reconstruct the once booming economy, don't vote for them again! It's a secret ballot, nobody will ever know who you voted for! Your choice, last chance before the lights go out.SMALL BUSINESS GETTING SMALLERCity of Hamilton
