Only in Bermuda

July 31, 2011Dear Sir,After reading “Letter to the Editor” on Saturday, July 30, ‘Remember the Customer', it made me realise that more and more people in Bermuda are of the same opinion when it comes the state of the Post Office and its shannanagins!! I for one am TOTALLY done with it all!I have to wonder as well as to who really came up with such a ridiculous idea of the mail addressing issues we have in the postal service.I recently had my best friend in the UK tell me that she posted a parcel to me a few months back as a surprise, only for it to be returned to her, as the postcode was one number out. This initially had cost her the equivalent of $30 to post from her end, but to be returned to her once it had arrived in Bermuda is an absolute joke. How ridiculous is this and how much more work is this causing the postal workers not to mention the costs as well and especially something so silly as this, my poor friend no longer sends me anything so that's one less customer.Times are hard in today's economy, so you would think we would all be pulling together and not turning customers awa. As I used to go to the post office to post my bills etc, I no longer do, (some staff members are rude, obnoxious and make you feel like you are a burden to them.)I now pay bills online or hand deliver myself (as do 99 percent of my friends), the estimated arrival on the local post now seems to take up to at least a week to ten days to get to you.Why couldn't we simply just have kept it the way it was before?Mail in larger counties; ie, UK and US, seem to be delivered if not quicker but to their actual destination regardless of the correct postcode or street number.Only in Bermuda, eh?STAMPLESSDevonshire
