Shutting for lunch

August 2, 2011Dear Sir,Re: How to Improve Government Efficiency, Productivity and Quality of Service to the General PublicThe Bermuda Post Office recently sent a letter, dated July 22, to residents served by the Harrington Sound Post Office. In that letter, residents were advised that “The Bermuda Post Office is currently reviewing its operating procedures with a view to improve efficiency, productivity and the quality of service provided to the general public.“Consistent with this effort, please be advised that effective August l, 2011, the lunch time closure hours for the Harrington Sound Post Office will be 11am to 1pm daily; the Office will continue to open at 8am and close at 5pm daily. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and we look forward to serving you and meeting your needs on a consistent basis”.Will someone kindly advise me as to how the Bermuda Post Office will improve its efficiency, productivity, or the quality of service provided to the general public by closing its Harrington Sound Post Office 2 hours each day for lunch? If it works, we need to get rid of that consultant that has been hired to provide advice on how to improve efficiency across Government — the expertise is in house.AN AVERAGE JOESmithsPS The letter from the Post Office was signed by the Acting Postmaster General who used a title that indicated that she had a doctorate. Maybe I need a doctorate to see the great benefits of closing the Post Office two hours each day for lunch.
