Barn is making changes

October 6, 2011Dear Sir,I would like to thank Mr. Kerr for taking the time to write a Letter to the Editor on October 4 submitting his suggestions regarding the Barn. For clarification purposes and for the benefit of some members of the public who may not be aware, the Hospitals Auxiliary of Bermuda has both a service arm where we assist in all areas of KEMH and operates three business enterprises, The Barn, The Pink Café and The Gift Shop. Monies raised are utilised to purchase capital equipment for both hospitals. Every year, the Auxiliary donates approximately $500,000 worth of equipment to the Bermuda Hospitals Board for which they are very grateful. The more money raised, the more the entire community benefits by way of medical equipment we purchase. We are in the midst of incorporating some very positive changes at the Barn which we believe will increase customer satisfaction one of which is to reduce prices. From time to time the Barn has to stop accepting donations due to lack of space and lack of volunteers. We are truly thankful for the community for donating their items to the Barn and understand their frustration when we turn donations away however we must abide by Health and Safety guidelines ensuring it is a safe environment for our volunteers to work in. It is always a challenge to find new volunteers and I would welcome anyone who may be interested in joining the Auxiliary to contact me at 236-2488 or via e-mail nancy.oughton@bhb.bm to give of their precious time to such a worthwhile cause. We are truly blessed to have a wonderful group of dedicated volunteers who work so hard for our Organisation and can only invite others to take the time to consider donating some of your time to ultimately benefit the community.Thank you to all of our regular customers of the Barn, we hope you will continue to support us and will be pleased with the changes you will see over the next few months and to anyone who has yet to visit us, please come to the Barn and see for yourself what bargains you can get. We have a large selection of men’s, ladies & children’s clothing, books, (including a large selection of Bermuda books), bric-a brac, electronics, sporting equipment, shoes, toys, linens, DVD, furniture, etc. We are located at 53 Devon Springs Road, Devonshire (tel 236-3155). We hope to see you there.NANCY OUGHTONGeneral ManagerThe Hospitals Auxiliary of Bermud
