Who will be held accountable?
October 13, 2011Dear Sir,This morning’s paper quotes a spokesperson for the Premier commenting on the improvements undertaken by the Premier with the implementation of the Good Governance Act 2011; as a result, we are told, now “all purchases over $50,000 will not be entered into without a full tendering process and a written contract that is vetted by the Attorney General’s Chambers”.Would this be the same Attorney General’s Chambers that signed off on the contract awarded to Andre Curtis? How effective is this so-called vetting going to be when both the Attorney General’s Chambers and Cabinet reportedly approved the contract awarded to Mr Curtis? Wasn’t the current Premier and many of the current Cabinet part of Cabinet then? Has there been a complete change of staff in the Attorney General’s Chambers so as to enable them to recognise a good contract from a bad contract? Just wondering. It would also be good to know if anyone is ever going to be held accountable for any of these wrongs for which we are now all paying dearly.ELSPETH A BREWINWarwick
