Outrageous news

Dear Sir,So often when reading the news two thoughts come to mind ...1. How absolutely ridiculous many of the sentences are in our courts.2. How absolutely ridiculous and childish so many of our politicians act when in the House of Assembly. Both are actually embarrassing. Bermuda must be the laughing stock of the world. The recent article reported in The Royal Gazette regarding the care giver who swindled $32,000 from an elderly person. It is unbelievable that any judge would decide to let her off with repaying only $6,000 of the $32,000 because on appeal she revealed that she was $40,000 in debt. Tough! Why should someone else have to pay for her debt. Yes it is tough that she’s $40,000 in debt but this does not justify her stealing from someone to pay off her debt. What kind of lesson does this teach? What message does this send? Is it okay to steal if you’re in debt? This outrageous judgement is an encouragement to others to do the same. Who said that crime doesn’t pay? Evidently in Bermuda it does! This judgement is absolutely disgusting. The gentleman’s family should sue or counter-appeal if there’s such a thing. Then, there the treatment that Mrs Louise Jackson received when she tried to speak out in defence of the elderly in the “honourable” House of Assembly. She was met with the disrespect of jeers and heckling, and told by Deputy Premier Derrick Burgess “You’ve got to sit down Miss Jackson, I’m still on my feet, sweetheart”. First of all ... it’s Mrs Jackson, and who does he think he is calling her “sweetheart”. These childish, disrespectful people in the “house” better hope and pray that there’s a Louise Jackson to speak on their behalf when they get to the point in life where they cannot defend themselves and need an advocate. God help them now and then because they need all the help they can get. They’re pathetic.OUTRAGED AND DISGUSTEDHamilton
