The wisdom of Charles Dickens

Charles Dickens

January 5, 2012Dear Sir,One wonders if Madam Premier as our too long a Minister of Finance ever read anything by Charles Dickens (1812-1870). There is a quotation that is a favourite of mine and one my family has lived by. I’ve modified it slightly to refer to our modern currency. It goes like this: ”Annual income twenty dollars, annual expenditure nineteen dollars and 90 cents, result happiness. Annual income twenty dollars, annual expenditure twenty dollars and ten cents, result misery.”I wish that the debt our Minister of Finance has generated for Bermuda was just $0.10 a year, because the actual debt magnifies the misery she and her Cabinet colleagues, past and present, have inflicted upon us, every one. Let’s hope there are no more Progressive Labour Party cabinet colleagues of the future.SCROOGEPembroke
