Enough is enough

March 22, 2012Dear Sir,I am sorry but I nearly spat my coffee out this morning as I saw on the front page of The Royal Gazette this title ‘Burt: The PLP is the party of hope’. Oh really? What hope is Sen David Burt talking about? I’m sorry but you know I am a Catholic and even in the Bible we are taught to not just sit and wait for God to just grant things. We must work to achieve our goals and He will aide us. Sitting around and hoping for things to happen gets you nowhere. You think Moses sat by the Nile River and said “Gosh I hope things change”? Wake up Burt and get your head out of the sand! There is no hope with the Progressive Labour Party. Why? Because they are doing nothing but hoping things get better. Not even God the Almighty is going to snap his fingers and make the billion of dollars in debt vanish, violent crime vanish or jobs magically appear. It takes a government with some fiscal knowledge and restraint to do that. Not a party of ‘hope.’ I do not want a hope party. PLP is supposed to be a labour party yet I see no labour being done. I see civil servants driving around in totally unnecessary vehicles. What is next? Will the Works and Entertainment department get BMW’s to drive up to construction sites in? Or shall the PLP allow more people to buy flat screen TVs? The only work being done seems to be to slip the taxpayer’s money off to unknown recipients and then when people like the last and current Auditor General and the Ombudsman blow the whistle the PLP ignores it or labels them as scaremongers etc. Referring again to the Good Book we have the story the foolish man who built his house upon the sand. Well, not only did the PLP do that on South Shore but now they want us to live in it! Yea right, give it a few years and one good hurricane and presto-chango those hideous dwellings will be a lovely new home for some breams and grunts to swim through. Also in the paper is the MindMaps poll that says apparently PLP is behind the OBA in voter approval. Bravo! That’s a good sign; however, it is often the very same people grumbling about the PLP that after a few parties, greased pockets and false promises they go and vote that gaggle of squabbling geese back into power. Come on Bermuda enough is really enough.ROBERT DAVIES JRDevonshire
