Two gifted leaders
April 16, 2012Dear Sir,Bermuda has been blessed to have been served by two leaders who, without doubt are among the highest calibre talent to have held the highest political office on our home soil. Both off them, highly educated, and confident men! At the end of the day they both are forever politically connected to each other in our history. They set about their tasks with vigour and purpose. They both, in similar fashion attempted, despite opposition, to build the country in their image. No different than most, because every leader at least should have one when aspiring to become one. What separates these two from the rest was their polarising thinking and intelligence. One was more influential than the other only because of the times they served! More interesting would have been if they had the opportunity to oppose each other in the prime of their political lives instead of a few generations apart. They both had great supporters and equally the same amount of detractors. When you sit back and evaluate both the works of the two former leaders, one often wondered that the office of Premier of Bermuda was too small for them. So gifted were these two. When you look at the work, despite the political and social differences, these two stood out head and shoulders above the rest. I have no doubt that either of these men could have sat behind any desks in the political world and performed with distinction, both of them brilliant in their own right. One, a successful businessman, and the other an acclaimed medical doctor! Like most men at that level they both had a streak of dictatorship within them. One had the free reign to basically set a course to achieve what we have to enjoy today and the other attempted to take Bermuda to the next level in which he visualised.Sir Henry Tucker and Dr Ewart F Brown.BROWNLOW ADDERLEYSouthampton
