Committed to transparency

26 April, 2012Dear Sir,I’d like to reply to the letter that appeared in your newspaper of today, signed Chris, which made much of the One Bermuda Alliance’s failure to publish an election manifesto. I understand Chris’s anxiety, because the Government certainly gives no indication that it has a clear idea of where it is taking Bermuda. If Chris, and other Bermudians who may feel like him, would go to our website (www.oba.bm), they will find very full accounts of what the OBA intends to do to solve problems, especially in our economy, in education, in the fight against crime, and in good governance. These accounts are mentioned particularly in our reply to the last Throne Speech, and in our reply to the last Budget. Those two documents can be found in the Hot Topics section of the website. Our plans have also been mentioned in public meetings and in public statements during the last few months. Our sense is that the public has listened to us, and now has a reasonable sense of what we are about. When to publish an election manifesto are political decisions seldom made before an election is called. However, Bermudians can rest assured that the OBA will not put them in the position of going to the polls without the clearest understanding of what we would do as their government. We are committed to open and transparent government and look forward to making that happen.CRAIG CANNONIERLeader of the Opposition
