What are the PLP’s plans?

August 13, 2012Dear Sir,I sometimes read The Royal Gazette blogs on stories of interest and the nom-de-plumes of the PLP supporters are quickly identified by the unconditional support for anything the PLP or the BIU does. Quite sad really. Many stories are about the PLP’s mismanagement of just about every aspect of Government but rather than respond to the OBA/UBP blogs (as the PLP supporters refer to any blogger who disagrees with them) the PLP/BIU/UBP bloggers (as the PLP bloggers might more correctly be termed, based upon the influence of the BIU in party policy and the number of ex-UBP Members of Parliament in their ranks) usually just attack the messenger or ask why the OBA doesn’t offer solutions. This, which is even sadder, means that the PLP have absolutely no ideas themselves. It is not up to the OBA to tell the PLP how to get us out of the mess the PLP have gotten us into, at least, not just yet. The PLP called the last General Election but, if I remember correctly, they didn’t produce their manifesto until just before polling day and weeks after the UBP had distributed their manifesto to the voters. The PLP attacked the UBP’s manifesto without having anything for the voters to compare it with. The UBP manifesto was poorly written in places and allowed the PLP to twist good proposed policies, like stronger deterrents to combat crime to “bringing back the whip”. Anybody still think the PLP’s slap-on-a wrist policy works? The PLP’s manifesto, when it became available just before voting day, was thin and the PLP relied upon innuendo, spin and race to win the day. I hope all voters can see where the PLP’s lack of vision and out of control spending has taken us since November, 2007.The PLP will again call the next General Election and as yet I have no idea how they intend to turn the economy around and pay off the massive debt they have generated, let alone deal with the social and educational consequences of having to spend millions of dollars every week in debt interest charge. I challenge the PLP to distribute their manifesto the day after the Premier drops the writ so we can see what the PLP’s vision is for the next five years or if it is all words of encouragement and self congratulations for a job well done, with absolutely no concrete plans for action, which is all we have heard for the last few years.Just for a change, I’d like to have time to actually read their manifesto before I have to vote, so I can base my decision on their record and their plans. I further challenge them to keep race out of the election, even with three white candidates, but that is a wane hope when they have such a poor record in looking after the interests of all Bermudians.PART TIME BLOGGERPembroke
