Political 'distractioneering'

September 5, 2012Dear Sir,This is in reply to Christopher Famous’ letter dated August 30, 2012 and published in today’s Royal Gazette. First of all Mr Famous, your opening line the “United Bermuda Party turned Bermuda Democratic Alliance turned One Bermuda Alliance” is worn out and juvenile and has nothing to do with the poor performance of the Progressive Labour Party. At least the OBA had the sense to divorce themselves from the UBP as they could see that it was a sinking ship — but unlike many of the supporters of the PLP (including yourself), seem prepared to go down with this now fast sinking PLP ship. On another note, it is ironic that the PLP is now laced with those that swam across the stream hoping to save themselves for obvious reasons so in essence, the PLP could be called the PLP/UBP which again would be juvenile and after all, we are supposed to be adults. Now let’s take these zones you are talking about. Personally, Zone C6 — I wouldn’t vote for Wayne Furbert as I think he, like many, is a political opportunist and needs to be fed but, as a former leader of the UBP, this does not say much for his character as he has spoken many times against the incompetent administration of the PLP Government — as a result, his crossover is questionable and suspicious. He would have shown more credibility if he had stayed as an Independent — but I guess the bills have to be paid. When it comes to Zone C31 — I would have to vote for Shawn Crockwell as I find him to be an intelligent person and has raised himself up to a higher level. I think Charlie Swan will be a waste of time as he and Kim are fighting an uphill battle and refuse to admit it. Rest assured I do not in any way mean disrespect to either of them, but that is the way the cookie has crumbled and the pieces have to be swept off the floor. There are two pieces left on the floor and we have to get on with business. These two men should have run as Independents also and not as UBP candidates because the UBP is dead and will never be resurrected. Then we have Zone C25 — Mark Pettingill and Dale Butler. We all know that Dale Butler in 1998 won more votes than anyone in the history of Bermuda’s political career and that is why the PLP still have him there to be used as a vote getter and anyone with any sense knows this including Dale Butler therefore, I could not vote for a puppet or one that would allow themselves to be so unashamedly used.Mr Famous I do not understand your following statement : “Let’s do the math — These gents have been turfed out to almost unwinnable seats. So it seems fairly obvious this was not a merger, this was a takeover.” How could this be a takeover? This is politics and you place your best people where you think they will win. Didn’t Dale Butler win that seat in 1998 and still has it? So please explain yourself — and why would you say that Michael Dunkley is the leader of the OBA and not Craig Cannonier? Is it because Michael Dunkley answered a question that was put to Craig Cannonier? Is Derrick Burgess the real leader of the PLP? Again you are being juvenile and by your comments and not putting your valuable time to the issues that have been created in the past 14 years by your “Family” the PLP Government. This is just another PLP strategy of political “distractioneering”.In closing, as far as Michael Dunkley having to “jump” in there to answer the question you mentioned regarding the Everest DeCosta’s Show, well personally, I am glad that he was able to do that. It’s too bad someone hasn’t “jumped” in there to answer the many unanswered questions that have been put to the PLP Government and believe me there are hundreds with the biggest question being, “where the hell is all of the money and where has it gone?”. Can you answer that? Most of your letter is about the how the OBA was formed. Well my dear Mr Famous, regardless of who fathered the OBA, it has been born and now all I can say is to watch it grow. If I were you, I would advise your “PLP Family” to get ready because the logically thinking people of Bermuda are going to be the village to raise this OBA child. It will not be neglected or left to its own devices to run amok. Just remember, a good strong “Family” always has discipline, devotion and decorum — not deceitfulness, distrust and division.PAT FERGUSONWarwick
