Help our people

Dear Sir,I find it very disturbing when you sit and look at the history of employment for the Uighurs. Since they first arrived in Bermuda they have not been unemployed for lengthy periods. Upon their arrival to the Island the Government, (and I say Government even if it was only a few because they all supported the few) went out of its way to find them jobs at a Government owned golf course where they made $51,600 a year, which is more than most Bermudians make. After being terminated from the golf course the Bermuda Government worked diligently to get the four Uighurs new jobs at a private construction firm, but at first refused to comment as to where they had gained employment. It later came about that they had been given employment at D&J Construction, the same company that seems to get many of government’s jobs.Just recently there has been an article in the paper saying that one of the former detainees is seeking work once again and is complaining that he can’t afford to provide for his family and that he needs help finding work. What about the hundreds of Bermudians that have been unemployed for months some even years? As for citizenship and travel documents; I don’t believe that they should be allowed citizenship or travel documents when people who have children born to a Bermudian father but foreign mother have a hard enough time getting citizenship, or people who have been here for long enough to gain status but can’t get a Bermudian passport. I’m sorry to say but Government needs to start rolling out the red carpet for Bermudians and not just for foreigners. When is Government going to help the people of Bermuda? I suppose next month with an election peering around the corner.AARON EDNESSWarwick
