Expedient behaviour

October 20, 2012Dear Sir,We all know that there are businessmen who will do anything to increase their profit margin. Some of these businessmen are also political opportunists and will work very closely with whichever party is in power. Political philosophy, principles and values are distant cousins to the almighty dollar.Does anybody remember when the UBP were in power, shortly before the 1998 election, when housing was again a real concern for low income families and the PLP derided the idea of small low cost starter homes at Tudor Hill? Does anybody remember the hundreds of vacant, liveable homes at Southside that the base families had recently vacated? It didn’t suit the UBP’s then leaders’ plans to move low income, likely PLP supporters, into those homes, even temporarily, because it was a marginal constituency. What happened? A local contractor quietly ripped out every kitchen and bathroom from these homes at Southside to make them uninhabitable. The people’s needs were not as important as dollars to this company and the UBP had never lost an election. The UBP had become arrogant and condescending and deserved to be thrown out at the next election but the contractor? He just swapped allegiance as easily as changing his dirty underwear and has since received many lucrative Government contracts. A healthy mind should be able to work it out who we are talking about.IMAGINEPembroke
