Yes to a handup, not a hand out

January 14, 2013Dear Sir,In this economic time, there are a lot of people depending on financial assistance from the Government. Now, I know there are many legitimate people in need of the Government assistance programme, they just need a hand up until they can get back in to the work force again. Which they are genuinely seeking.I want to know exactly how the Government Financial Assistance and the Hustle Truck works. Are their employees on assistance for a limited time, say two years and in that time, they have to get a job? Are their workers giving the Financial Department an itemised list, with receipts of where the money is being spent? After all it is our money (the working Bermudian people), that they are spending. I don’t want to be enabling these people to not move forward, or to support their drug, alcohol or cigarette habits. Are we enabling girls who can’t figure out how to use birth control, to keep having babies (instead of keeping their legs closed) that the government will support? Also are we encouraging boys, to continue to have babies, without the responsibilities of being a father?Does the Hustle Ruck pay a wage or a salary? Are the workers getting paid even when they are not working? What is the pay scale on the Hustle Truck? Since it is government run with the people’s money, this information should be made public. Maybe the Hustle truck should become self-sufficient, not being supported by the Government indefinitely.I’m all for giving people in need a hand up, but not a hand out.WHERE HAS ALL THE MONEY GONE?Pembroke
