To the winners the spoils

January 24, 2013Dear Sir,Did not the OBA in the election campaign pledge among other things to make changes re the tourism ministry with the putting in place of a Tourism Authority? In addition they said they would reinstate the Medical Clinic and suspend Term Limits for two years pending review. If we were listening, these three issues among a host of other promises were talked about for months on end. Why would it now seem so beyond reason that they would proceed forthwith to implement their agenda and mandate after victory at the polls?Unless I have a fundamental misunderstanding of how our system of parliamentary governance works, just about anything is on the table for review, change or amend as they see fit in their collective wisdom as the winners of a general election. The OBA needs to be afforded every opportunity to show they can achieve, not withstanding the opposition having their say and keeping a tight reign on government as her Majesty’s loyal opposition. To have it inferred, who do they think they are because they have a different way forward and will remove some policies put into place by their immediate predecessors is ridiculous thinking. The majority of us that gave this new administration a thumbs up expect them to deliver good government. They know the issues very clearly and the task ahead being fraught with colossal challenge and difficulty. They have five years and must tackle our problems with ability and professionally for all of us. They must not be denied a reasonable period of time to get our house in order. The people are always right and they will decide again at the next election.Go forward OBA and get it done.WAYNE B SCOTT
