Our bus stops are in a poor state

April 8, 2013Dear Sir,I would like to bring to the attention of the new Government the dreadful state of our bus stops. If this problem is not addressed soon it will eventually be blamed on the new Government rather than where it belongs.Several years ago someone either in Works and Engineering or the Public Transportation Board decided to cover the old pink and blue painted bus stops with gaudy new covers which might have sounded like a good idea at the time because the covers were reflective.Unfortunately, almost as soon as these reflective covers were applied they started to deteriorate as they became torn and scratched and started peeling off in hot weather. This material is totally unsuitable for our climate. To make matters worse, we then had an austerity drive so instead of re-covering the whole pole when the covers needed replacing, someone has been cutting random pieces and just sticking them on the poles, sometimes covering half a pole and sometimes covering just a few inches. It looks like a deliberate effort to make them as ugly as possible with some still in disgraceful condition. Can we please return to sanity. Just select attractive shades of pink and blue, Bermuda-bought paint and have a couple of men remove the old covers and paint them like they did before. This would provide steady employment for a couple of workers and return our bus stops to what they should be; an attractive feature of Bermuda for both locals and visitors.GOT THE BLUES OVER PINK AND BLUES
