Now is the time to heal our wounds
July 4, 2013Dear Sir,I am making an emotional analogy. Being a nurse, I know all about healing. To start off with, we must close ranks and decide that the bitterness and memories of the past must not be allowed to fester and become septic and gangrenous, that is to say not to forget, but to respect the pain that was inflicted, and vow it can never happen again, that must be our apology. Now we must not waste any more time, but move on to the future with hope and energy.Wounds need time to heal and in my opinion I think now is that time for Bermuda.Bermuda needs its people, each and every one of us, to make the sacrifices that need to be made if we are to survive. Cars cannot be driven without gasoline, we cannot survive without water, and Bermuda cannot continue on its present path without the funds to run this lovely little Island.Strikes will kill the golden egg and then nobody wins. We will look back and realise how fortunate we were to have, yes, a struggling little Island, but we were coping, coping by all of us making a realistic effort to do with less. Less means a conscious effort to give and not take, less means to halve and share, less means to pull in one’s belt and get thinner and fitter and see where our brothers, and our Government, need our help and give every ounce of support we can muster. No more ‘what’s in it for me’, but what’s in it for Bermuda, should be the chorus. We can do it, we must do it, we should consider ourselves at war, and we the people, are the armies to fight this war and win.Let the world see the magic of healing and the strength and fortitude of The Bermudian People.DIANA WILLIAMS
