What the OBA must do

One Bermuda Alliance members wait with anticipation for the final result on election night in December.

July 18, 2013Dear SirThis letter is addressed to the One Bermuda Alliance, whom I support 100 percent. You were elected for a reason and that reason was to lead. Leadership requires making difficult decisions and, so far, I can see that you understand the problems and probably have some idea how to solve them. Those solutions are not going to always be politically palatable but they need to be made. As they say, a week is a long time in politics ... and you’ve been the Government for over six months. You need to stop talking and travelling and handing out awards to people and start making some hard decisions.First off, I know that you know that gaming is not going to solve all our problems. I also know that nobody in their right mind, including the Green family, are going to put $1 of capital into Bermuda tourism without a gaming licence or the promise of one. Mr Cannonier, in my opinion you need to go back to the people and tell them that they elected you and your colleagues and we are not having a referendum on gaming (a process which will become a public-relations nightmare for you and will polarise us in a way that we will never recover from) and just pass the damn legislation. Second, Mr Fahy, before City Hall sells the entire damn town, you need to amend the Act and I mean now.I know that you have all the answers and you want to do everything your way and at your pace but if my suggestion is so wrong, please hold a press conference and tell me and Bermuda how you think you can fix what has been done. If that Municipalities Act doesn’t get amended, the Mayor can do anything his little heart desires. Those are two examples of what your supporters are talking about. All I’m saying is stop waffling and running around in circles and act like the elected leaders you can be. SincerelyIT’S DECISION TIME
