More say would be a bad move

September 23, 2013Dear Sir,The Premier allegedly wants to be involved with the appointment of both the Police Commissioner and the Governor. As Britain’s oldest self-governing Colony, Bermuda has been able to control its destiny. With the Governor being appointed by HM The Queen on the recommendation of the UK Government, should he or she totally screw up I am sure there would be an immediate recall. (Hence checks and balances)With the Commissioner of Police, should this be a political appointment, God help Bermuda! With the alleged corruption of the previous administration, can you imagine what would happen should the Commissioner be a political appointment. One only has to see what has happened in the islands south of us to realise this would be a very bad move. There is the PSC which makes recommendations to His Excellency for these appointments, so there is input from Bermudians.I do not want to see any politician having such powers. The judiciary, external affairs and the police should remain outside of the political sphere.Yours sincerely,Antony Siese
