Sack them all and start again
February 17, 2014
Dear Sir,
As I watched Gary Moreno’s programme (Let’s Talk) Monday evening, February 17th, I was most, most embarrassed and disappointed in our leadership.
Where is the honour, where is the diplomacy?
I do not see our country moving forward with such bad attitudes. I agree with Rose N Franzblau who once said: “Honesty, without compassion and understanding is not honesty, but subtle hostility.”
I see us marking time and moving backwards during a period when our people are seriously in need. We don’t have time for such nonsense to dominate discussions in the House, our news media etc. We need positive discussions of a way forward.
Do I need to remind our political leaders that they are getting paid, but we have young children, and families, who are hungry every day, and yes, our economy is still ailing! We, the people, need our leaders to stop these accusations, and the back-stabbing that is going on, just to vie for political positioning, most often for personal gain, because it certainly isn’t benefiting me and my family.
Oh, by the way Mr Bean, the PLP were evidently not meeting the needs of our people so they were voted out “by the people.”
Let’s not get into the many reasons why; there are too many to name in this article — and mind you, I am not saying that some good wasn’t accomplished.
However, to the general readership, whatever your political persuasion, a continuous opposition of whichever party is in power, is not working for us when we need to move forward and get the job done. If this system had worked over the many years that it has been in existence, we would not be in the position we find ourselves in today.
This is such a sad period in our political history. I am persuaded that we need to dissolve both parties and set up a system of voting for a group of the most eligible persons to lead our country, persons who have proven themselves in the past, persons who don’t just ‘talk the talk, but walk the walk’ along with a Board to oversee their functions and to ensure that they are fulfilling their mandates.
Okay, this may not seem reasonable to some, but we need a solution. I have put my solution forward because I witnessed a demonstration of political suicide (without regret) by a “leader” on national television.
My people, may I remind you that one can be honest and still be honourable. Let’s stop this bad behaviour and GROW UP. We have much work to do.
Carolyn Bassett
