Let go of this obsession

March 13, 2014

Dear Sir,

In case ten thousand other people don’t respond, I thought it necessary to ask your letter writer ‘Anonymous’, (these drivers don’t care about lives) what the colour of these two driver’s skin has to do with their vehicle’s condition?

It might have been relevant had the drivers been missing limbs or wearing a blindfold but this constant obsession with skin tone has got to go.

While we’re at it, I may as well sign my name and by doing so, apparently earn the right to be working class by Cheryl Pooley.

I read Ms Pooley’s comments on punishing hard working, high achieving members of our community with selective taxation, just in case they haven’t already paid a higher amount of Land Tax, Corporation Tax, Customs duties, bills for good and services, charitable donations and ... need we go on? While we are showing our resentment against achievement, maybe we could alert the schools and our youth that working hard, earning a first-class education, saving money, investing in Bermuda real estate and creating jobs as a result, is no longer a goal to strive for. Should this idea of Ms Pooley gain traction, we should prepare to welcome a significant increase in tourists from Russia and China.
