Stirring up emotions

May 2, 2014

Dear Sir,

I believe in equality and justice for all and I believe in job creation, and job opportunity for those willing and able. The present govt is introducing ways and means for jobs to be created and hopefully we will see positive results.

The loss of jobs year over year has slowed down indicating we are on the right path. Maybe, just maybe, we will get to a point where we will see growth in the job market.

Watching TV last night and listening to talk radio, the organisers of the recent march would suggest that the govt is not caring or doing anything to help those unemployed.

They even seem to think it is all the present govt’s fault. Nothing can be further from the truth! Did the former govt have a stellar record of looking out for the interest of we Bermudians?

Let me explain. Do you remember when Port Royal Golf Course was refurbished? There were a score or so of foreign workers brought in to do the job we Bermudians should have been hired to do.

The unions, or govt supporters said nothing. The work should have gone to us, we know how to plant grass, rake soil and landscape. No, the work went to imported, blue collar workers at our expense.

If my memory serves me well, The Uigurs were given full time jobs on the golf course. Why were those four jobs not given to Bermudian workers? Even more important, why did the unions and the Labour Govt let this happen? Do as I say not as I do perhaps?

That brings me back to the March for Equality, Jobs and Justice. Perhaps the organisers are trying to discredit the present govt for the good work they are doing.

Maybe the real agenda is to stir up emotion so that the party they are aligned with will benefit. Only time will tell, but one thing is for sure, this writer is not fooled!
