Former resident explains Brazil’s frustrations
7 May 2014
Dear Sir,
I’m writing to you because I resided in Bermuda for 20 years. Currently I’m living in Brazil and I feel obligated to explain why Brazilians have been protesting. Our schools are falling apart, the classrooms are crowded and teachers are underpaid. Our hospitals are also falling apart, housing patients in the hallways and desperately in need of more doctors.
Brazil estimated they would spend $10 billion on the World Cup compared to the $3 billion spent in South Africa four years ago. This caused the people of Brazil to question the government’s priority. Today the total spent is $26 billion with an estimate of $30 billion by the time every thing is ready for the hosting of the games. I hope by reading this you understand why my people are protesting so violently. We want schools, hospitals and a less corrupt government.
