Kevin Comeau is quite right

May 12, 2014

Dear Sir

Kevin Comeau’s letter to the Editor on Monday May 12 was both dead-on accurate and, as usual, diplomatic. Even he is not interested in ‘naming names’ but as he said, understanding the cause will allow us not to make the same mistake twice. Read his letter very closely because he is absolutely right ... it was a combination of the Progressive Labour Party simply not understanding or wanting to understand the needs of IB and, furthermore, not understanding IB’s importance to Bermudas economy. Add to that the payroll tax increase, the increase in notional amount on which payroll tax is imposed plus the general nastiness to anyone who isn’t Bermudian ... and that is why the jobs and the people moved away. As Mr Comeau says, the jobs weren’t ditched by the company, the company simply found a better place to do business.

No question that Bermudians are key to our economy but in this day and age we cannot live without outside people coming her to live and to work. The One Bermuda Alliance — despite all their trips, stumbles, naivete and lack of communication skills ... are beginning to turn it around. They are creating a climate where people will want to visit Bermuda and do business here.

The PLP fooled us once and, as they say, fool me once, shame on you ... fool me twice, shame on me.

NEVER AGAIN
