‘Mr Equal’ does not consult Bible enough

Dear Sir,

Please allow me a few lines to respond to “Mr Equal”, whose letter appeared in The Royal Gazette on Saturday, October 10, 2015. I am surprised that “Mr Equal” calls himself a Christian. He states that “it seems that most of the verses against it [homosexuality] are found in the Old Testament”.

Well, since he obviously does not consult his Bible frequently enough, please allow me to point out to him Romans 1:26-27 and 1 Corinthians 6:9, which, in case he doesn’t know, are in the New Testament. These verses are very clear on what God thinks about homosexuality.

May I further point out James 1:17, which states that God does not change which is also found in Malachi 3:6. The fact that something is contained in the Bible, whether Old Testament or New Testament has a bearing on today’s society is clearly brought out if you consider 2 Timothy 3:16. People who get hung up on Old Testament or New Testament, in my opinion, are looking to excuse their behaviour or actions.

The Bible is very clear on the position of homosexuality and thus, as a Christian, my position is also clear. There is no ambiguity. As such, I cannot support the position of gay marriage, as this is surely a great affront to God. I want “Mr Equal” to also note that as a Christian, I am not afraid to stand up for what I believe in and do not find it necessary to hide behind pen names or pseudonyms because I am afraid of what people might think. I must admit, his letter left me wondering what type of Christian he is.

Thank you, Mr Editor, for allowing me the space.

MICHAEL HARVEY
