We need to clean up Island, starting at top

Raising concerns: the words of Mark Pettingill last week have upset a reader, who fears we are heading for a “Christless” island (File photograph)

Dear Sir,

Today as I look and read The Royal Gazette, I am finding out that there is foul odour going through the Island.

When we look at what is going on in the political arena, particularly with the airport redevelopment, there has to be some kind of clean air somewhere that these politicians can breathe to clear their heads.

They were chosen to lead the people in a constructive direction and to be diligent in the operations of the Island and its funds, and they have gone against all that the motto of Bermuda stands for — “Whither the faiths shall lead us”.

I hasten to ask, where are you leading this country? With all due respect to the few that do have an interest in constructive government, the foul air is becoming stagnant and many of us are feeling the effect of this.

This Government seems to be heading for a “Christless” island and I must say that this will never happen, for greater is He that is in the hearts of His followers than he that is in hearts of this Government.

And when I look at yesterday’s RG headlines and the words of Mark Pettingill, well the stench gets worse and I know that pollution has taken over completely.

We really need to clean up our Island, starting at the top.

The unfortunate part is that we cannot just cast them aside because we have to love them as God loves them, because we all belong to Him. Unfortunately, too many have gone against His word and turned to their own understanding.

This is the quote from the RG: “As a Christian, I believe that we are spirits and the Christ in me is attracted to the Christ in my partner where we want to connect and become one.”

I hate to be a sore thumb, but the word in the book of Mark 10:6-8 reads as follows: “But from the beginning of creation, God made them male and female. Verse 7, For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife. Verse 8, and the two shall become one flesh; so then they are no longer two, but one flesh”. He does not say two women or two men, but a man joined to a woman and they will multiply. Too many are saying that God was wrong and to avoid population explosion He should have made just two men or two women.

That would have been OK, but being the omnipotent God that He is, He said to the male and female that He made, “Go forth and multiply”.

I am just revealing His word, which is truth. If there is a spirit of Christ in you, then you would know the sin you are committing. So read James 4:4, which reads “Adulterers and adulteresses. Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.” Again, this is God’s word.

The Progressive Labour Party has its share of foul odour that is not good for our country and, unfortunately, some children do not learn that there is a time and a place for everything, and that one has to know when to step down and become a follower.

Just read the Bible and see what happened years ago when the leadership went afoul and read what God said in 2 Chronicles 7:14: “If my people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from Heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land”.

I have to mention that all politicians should read this scripture verse and make an effort to be led by God in their decision-making for the good of this country.

I love my country and I have nowhere to go, but the odour in the air is making it hard for many to breathe.

When I look at my little great-grandchild, my heart gets very heavy thinking of what awaits her in the future of Bermuda.

I call on all the saints of Bermuda to pray without ceasing that these politicians will turn back to God for direction to the new Bermuda which they all talk about. God bless you all.
