Naysayers should stop listening to hysteria

Controversial issue: the same-sex marriage debate and the stance of the Preserve Marriage movement was the subject of a Bryant Trew column

Dear Sir,

The February 19 newspaper contained two must-read articles for anyone who cares about Bermuda and the direction our society has taken recently: your editorial about how we must accept (embrace, even) immigration reform for our very survival and Bryant Trew’s excellent column exposing the bigotry of the Preserve Marriage movement.

If the naysayers in our community would only stop listening to the hysteria, stop embracing causes without having first done any informed thinking and stop making a lot of commotion instead of helping us to get back on our feet, we would all be a lot better off. It is such a distraction to those who are working so hard to help us to recover from the damage done by the previous government to have to deal with the ever-increasing (and embarrassing to watch or listen to) noise made by the ignorant rabble that the Progressive Labour Party seems to be able to whip up.

If only it had been as effective in governing as it is in stirring up misplaced emotions, we almost certainly would not be in this situation.
